Issues: The Healthway Trail

This 5-8 mile multi-use trail system has been a "legacy" project for me since I was elected to City Council in January 2005.

This trail would allow all residents of the 9th District to have access to recreation as well as retail. The trail would tie together Waveland State Shrine, Shillito Park and Wellington Park along with major retail areas (Wal-Mart, Lowes, Fayette Mall, Lexington Green, Reynolds Rd. and Keithshire Shops) and multiple neighborhoods and schools (8 in all, K-12, Public and Private). This trail would also allow for commuter bike and pedestrian traffic from the Jessamine Co. line to St. Joseph's Hospital or U.K. (once the full improvements are completed on Clays Mill Rd.).

This trail was named "The Healthway" to underscore the importance for all residents of the 9th District, Lexington and Kentucky to begin moving more and leading healthier lives. It is designed to make a healthy lifestyle more accessible and fun.

Currently the trail system has over $1 million invested and we are awaiting word from the State Transportation Cabinet about the final $1 million to construct the project.

Below you will see a map as to where this trail will lay. The areas in black are portions that currently exist and/ or have funding programed. The colored areas are the areas we have made application for on March 31, 2006.

This project has received endorsements from national and international companies to non-profit and neighborhood groups. If you would like to become involved with this project please send an email to the address below.
